Her whole face lit up and said it was so unexpected and AMAZING. She said she has been corresponding with you to plan a trip as well. This is the most color and joy we have seen from her in quite some time. We truly cannot thank you enough. Her mom got tears in her eyes when she saw Amelia light up when she talked about it with me

My trip with Niks wish meant the world to me. I had always wanted to travel the country with my best friend and I've always wanted to see the national championship. I never really thought either would happen, but Niks wish made my dream come true. It was one of the best trips I've ever took and will be something I can always look back on and smile. I cannot say thank you enough to Niks wish for sending me to the game, and not just to the game but in style with amazing seats in an absolute state of the art stadium. Disney Honeymoon

I was diagnosed with leukemia at age 21. After a couple years of trying chemo medication, my doctor decided that my best option was to go through a bone marrow transplant at the start of 2019. During this time, I met and fell in love with my now wife, Chelsey. We discovered Nik's wish and were lucky enough to be granted our wish, which was to celebrate our honeymoon in Disney World. We were paired with Linda who made EVERY PART of this enjoyable. She was always available, patient, and did everything in her power to give us our dream wish, in which she succeeded! Myself and my wife were able to get married and because of Nik's Wish have a honeymoon that was better than anything we could have dreamed of! Myself and my wife have never been happier and we are so thankful for Nik's Wish for making this possible! Thank you to Nik's Wish and Linda for filling our hearts with such support and love during this time and providing us the opportunity to have memories that we will DEFINITELY be telling our children about some day! Our honeymoon was perfect in Disney World and we could not be more grateful for this!

One year ago I didn't know where I would be or if going on a vacation was even in my future. When I found out I was granted my wish I couldn't believe it! It helped me push myself to get better and it definitely changed my mood/mindset on how I was feeling when it seemed like all I could feel was what chemo made me feel. This wish meant so much to me, I was in paradise a year after I was bedridden. Thank you guys so much! I appreciate everyone who's apart of the foundation and I appreciate all the people who donate to make this all happen, its amazing!! I can't wait for the day I can say I've donated to help make someone else's wish come true.

My wish of a tropical getaway meant the world to me. It gave me a chance to take a break from everyday work life and is something I've always dreamed of. I've always wanted to travel to Hawaii, as I love the ocean. My wish being granted was the best gift I've ever been given. Maui was absolutely beautiful and in hindsight, the experience I had made everything I went through feel worth it. Nik's Wish is a wonderful program that makes dreams come true.

We brought our house and finally thought it was ok to fulfill a lifelong dream for Mikey, a Siberian Husky of his very own but then Mikey was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma and he has been undergoing chemotherapy for the last year. When he was in the beginning stages of diagnosis I connected with a mom, Melissa Manliguis-Paddock who's son was also going through chemotherapy for the same cancer. She took us by the hand, virtually since she lives in Chicago, and helped ease our fears. Through their cancer fight they met Cindy DiFulvio Eckholm and Nik's wish. After hearing about this amazing experience Mikey applied to see if HIS wish could be granted. Amazingly Mikey's wish was granted last night and he's the proud papa to a 8 week old Siberian Husky puppy. Pass away at home

Rolando, made it to Guatemala safely, and was able to recognize his mother and cousin who came to the airport to meet him! The father and mother are so incredible grateful for the support that you provided to him and his family. Because of your support the family was able to have their son return to Guatemala (their wish) and spend the last few days of his live beside his mother and siblings. Mom and dad both cried of gratitude.

Dad asked me to tell you THANK YOU and he and his family will never forget what Nik's Wish foundation did for them. This is a very humble and poor family who without your assistance it would not have been possible to grant their wish for their son to return to Guatemala.

What did my wish mean to me? Well just to be able to go to my dream destination and not have to worry about a thing meant the world!! Going on two and a half years my life was basically based around someone always being worried, and to just have a break where nobody is worrying felt amazing! To finally have a break from chemo, being poked by needles, feeling sick, making sure I was okay (and everyone around me), taking lab tests, just the whole 9 yards was absolutely breathtaking! I been wanting to go to Hawaii for years to see everything that the island had to offer and learn about the culture. I did so many new things that I didn't think I would ever experience. I am 20 years old and I got diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma at 19 years old just last year. I had the amazing opportunity to get granted a wish by Nik's Wish and I am so lucky. This wish means the absolute world to me. I am also a small business owner. I have my own boutique and I started at just 19 years old. I needed more space for inventory, jewelry, etc. I wished for a closet/office for my small business and Nik's Wish was able to grant it. I am so beyond thankful and fortunate for this wish as it has helped me and my small business so much. I now have my own desk, my own chair, and a whole bunch of space for my inventory. Without Nik's Wish I'm not sure where I would be at with my business. Thank you so much for everything Niks wish!

TJ from IN fighting ALL

Memphis

TJs cancer journey began in October 2018. Of course at this moment his world came crashing down quickly. We as a family tried to hold everything together for him, but at times our world was also crashing down. Immediately my guard went up and I would not allow him around anyone outside of the house. My fear of him getting sicker consumed me. Fast forward a little over a year and TJs immune system was a little more stable so he attended school for half a day. Just as he was beginning to feel sort of like himself, covid shut down everything. About 3 years later, TJ was finally done with chemo treatments and now it was time to really be thinking of following thru with TJs wish vacation. This is where Niks Wish came into our lives and cleared away all of the dark clouds looming over our heads. Our family had not hardly had many interactions nor been out of town for quite awhile. This vacation helped us forget all of the trauma we had for almost 4 years. We laughed together and finally acted like a usual family for the first time in years. We also did not need to worry about are we spending too much, will we have plenty of money for food or souvenirs. It was the greatest feeling since we heard the words, TJ is in remission. Thank you Niks Wish for giving my family back!--

Nikolas Ritschel foundation sent me and my family to Hawaii. This trip came at the perfect time I just started to feel better after battling cancer for a year and it was the first time I felt like myself again. WISH: Golden State Warriors Game

Nik's wish has captured such a special place in my heart. Being able to experience this trip with my mom, who sat with me at every chemo treatment, was oh so very special. Going through cancer sucks, on top of it my diagnosis was during peak COVID, so my life got put on the ultimate pause while I had to go through surgeries and treatments. Going to a Golden State Warriors game in San Francisco has always been on my bucket list, and the fact Nik's wish helped me accomplish that was a moment of victory after all the cancer. The best part of the trip was Golden State Warriors beat my hometown team UTAH Jazz in the most epic win ever! So much thanks to the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation, and for the amazing work they do. Any moment I have to donate/volunteer for them I'm doing it. Everyone young adult who gets the cancer diagnosis needs to experience the joy the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation has brought me.--

I was diagnosed in my senior year and high school. Making plans for after high school & becoming a young adult on my own. Unfortunately, all of that was halted when I randomly became sick & my ultimate diagnosis was leukemia. I finished my senior year mainly in the hospital & at home. I never went back to school since my diagnosis. Now everywhere I go I have to be more careful. I feel like my young adult life has been halted due to my leukemia. I just wanna feel like even if for one day that I can just live. No doctors, no hospitals, no blood draws, just be normal for once. I have not felt like I'm able to do that since 12-6-2018.

Thank you so very much for everything! You definitely brought joy to Chandler and the rest of my family ( Amber -- Chandler's mom)
It was towards the end of high school when I started to notice some differences. I started having some difficulties urinating and there was some blood in my urine. I told my parents and they scheduled an appointment for our local doctor. They took labs and everything came back normal. So they told me to keep drinking water and moved on. Turns out, rhabdomyosarcoma doesn't show in the blood. Difficulties continued so we scheduled an appointment with the urologist. They examined me and found a mass under the pelvic floor. So we scheduled to get my lymph node removed. After that, they diagnosed me with rhabdomyosarcoma. Early, it spread into my femur and caused major pain. After some chemo treatments, the main tumor shrunk and the tumors in my bones went away. A little time after that, I was in complete remission. After a few months, I relapsed. It's been a struggle ever since. It's more resistant and not very many chemos worked. It spread into my lungs and it started affecting my breathing.

Wish - PS5 with TV

Hey thanks you all a lot. Creators of foundation, volunteers, and donors. God bless you all....thank everyone who cares for others. One day me and Brent will be on our way to pay it forward" -- Brent's dad
Prior to diagnosis, Brent was a vibrant, talented young man who enjoyed playing football and basketball on his high school team. He had many friends, a job he enjoyed working at, and an active social lifestyle. He was able to save up to buy his first car and was so proud of himself for accomplishing that feat on his own. Since diagnosis, Brent was not able to go to school and was forced to start remote learning; however, as his illness got worse and treatments were required more often, he has been unable to complete his remote education program. He has been forced to move away from his family and friends in Idaho to receive specialized treatment in Utah. His father is the only person who is able to be at his side daily, while his mother and brother remain in Idaho. Brent misses his mother dearly, as well as his friends and family. It's very difficult to be confined to a hospital bed and, even more difficult, is the fact that he is unable to leave his hospital room due to contracting rhinovirus/RSV. When he's feeling up to it, he likes to build Lego cars, playing video games and doing crossword/word search puzzles.

My wish was amazing! Literally a life changing trip. I am so thankful for it and all of you!"

I was recently diagnosed with lymphoma in the middle of my freshman year in college. Being diagnosed and hearing the doctor in the ER say that I have cancer was a scary experience that I couldn't come to terms with for months. I often ignored it or pretended that it didn't exist. Once I came home to start treatment, one week after my diagnosis, I crashed. Suddenly everything felt real and I couldn't believe that I had cancer. Someone so relatively healthy, as I went to the gym a couple of times a week, had a pescetarian diet, and would journal. It felt like my life turned upside down.

At 22 years old, I was just 3 days away from the start of my final quarter of college and was thrilled to start the next chapter of my life. I had a final interview scheduled later that day (with talk of a promising job offer), with a company I had interned with all throughout my undergrad. A company that I admired wholeheartedly. I couldn't wait for graduation, all I could think about was how in just three short months I would be off "living my best life"...

That very same day, I noticed a distinct and concerning lumpy area on my neck. It truly did seem to have appeared just overnight. I had a horrible gut feeling something was wrong and immediately went to urgent care. Within a couple of hours, I was admitted to the hospital (due to suspicion of lymphoma). This was not even a possibility in my mind... I didn't know healthy 22-year-olds got cancer.

Before I had cancer, I could walk... I could feed and take care of my animals, I could go to work and clean the churches. I felt free, I loved to walk and feel the wind as I did my lapse around the house. I was carefree and took for granted the idea of getting out of bed on my own, brushing my teeth and using the bathroom on my own. Now, I'm in a wheelchair and can't do any of those things without help. I'm not complaining though, there are people who are worse off than me. I just thank God that I'm alive and giving me the strength to fight this battle until the end. I will get better and I won't give up. God didn't make a quitter so here we are. Cancer is not the end for me, only the beginning. Thank you so much for considering me. Yes, life can be hard, but no matter how hard, there's always something that will make you smile.

Jorell from Ohio

I went to Cincinnati Ohio Children’s Hospital and they removed 30 plus tumors. I'm currently in the radiation phase. For my Nik's Wish I would like a new gaming computer!

Thank you guys so much for everything you have done. It's much appreciated!!

Amita from MI, fighting Medulloblastoma

My life has completely been changed by the brain tumor. Before I was an independent college student with great friends. I could drive and work and do the things normal people can.  I have had to overcome many issues over this past year and a half. I had to teach myself to read, write, walk, type, and speak again.

I am so grateful for the holiday you allowed me to go on. My family and I had a great time and it was a new experience for us. I cannot emphasize how thankful I am to the whole organization, and you too. I thought that getting cancer was the worst thing ever and Ni's Wish gave me a silver lining.

Mindy from NYC fighting TCall ALL

I had the greatest, most awesome experience ever I don’t even know where to begin! The yoga class was one of the highlights! Harmony was an amazing instructor, and doing yoga facing such a beautiful view was just magnificent!
We went to an aquarium and relaxed by the pool! The Grand Canyon was amazing.
This wish is an absolute DREAM COME TRUE!!!! I feel like I was in Paradise

Thank you thank you thank you for giving me this opportunity!

Triston from WA fighting Ewing Sarcoma

Triston had been attending Central Washington University, majoring in computer science. Triston has always been a very motivated and focused kid and when he got diagnosed our whole world fell apart. We don't have anyone in our family with cancer and it really felt like it came out of nowhere, his leg broke while on a run at college and he fell.  They did an MRI and found the cancer. Although this has dramatically affected our family, we have felt God's presence in our lives and are so thankful for all the many blessing of strength, and comfort and just God's overall love for us during this.

WISH: Gaming Computer
My new new computer is GREAT!
It is such a blessing to see him happy! (Triston's mom)

Caleb from MD fighting Ewing Sarcoma

I had been in college a month when I was diagnosed. The cancer returned and my oncologist determined that I would need 6 rounds of chemo & a leg amputation to best increase my chances.

This trip was amazing! Me and my family had such a great time exploring both Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons National Parks. We saw beautiful nature and were blessed with lots of wildlife. I want to thank the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation for making this experience possible. It was a wonderful change of pace and truly a blessing to my both me and my family!

Jack from MI fighting Hodgkin's Lymphoma

I would like to start out by saying THANK YOU for making my wish come true! Nik truly is an angel. When I applied for Nik's wish, I was finishing up the end of my treatment and I wasn't exactly sure what lied ahead for me or for my family. This trip ended up being more of a "I kicked cancer's butt" celebration. My family and I are so thankful for Nik, for his wish, and for the volunteers that carry on his legacy. If it wasn't for Nik, this wouldn't have been possible for me, or for others to get wishes.

The wish exceeded our expectations. I never expected the experience or treatment that we received. Alaska was truly heaven here on earth. Most importantly, we made a lifetime of memories and new friendships with the Alaskan's. It's so hard to say what my favorite outdoor adventure was because it was all great. From the helicopter tour to all the fishing. it was Just amazing and beautiful.

We will always be thankful for Nik finding the "wish gap". I hope someday I can sponsor a family to do the same. My family has adopted the #LOVEWONcancerzero motto. It's a perfect fit.

Nicole from NC fighting Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Before I got sick I was very happy, social, and full of life. I started feeling very exhausted and fatigued which led to finding a mass in my chest. I feel stronger every day but I’m having a really hard time mentally trying to find ways to keep me happy. Family and friends have been my number one motivator. There is a music festival in Chicago called Lollapalooza. My friends and I have been talking about going for years.

We had the best weekend. I can seriously never thank you enough. We met so many amazing people!! Thank you for everything!!

Zackery from GA fighting Osteosarcoma

When I was diagnosed, the year had already been filled with challenges for my family. I was in a car accident, my grandfather died, we lost our home and had to move to an apartment. I started chemo and had my leg amputated. I would love to go to get away from the day to day thoughts and doctors appointments. It would be an amazing gift!
WISH: Trip to San Fran & Yosemite!

Sabrina from MO fighting Hodgkin's Lymphoma

This trip was truly incredible. It was such a blessing! We got to ride in a limo, fly on planes, go swimming, explore so many beautiful areas, play on the beach, eat lots of yummy treats (and ALL the seafood), and most importantly we got to just have some much needed family time. This trip was truly a blessing and came at such a much needed time. Nik's wish is truly a blessing to many and I am so thankful to be a recipient of their amazing blessings! We got to just live, forget about all we are going through, and have fun for a few days, and for that I am so thankful. I'm so truly blessed!

Leah from IL fighting Non Hodgkins Lymphoma

San Diego

Leah never imagined that a back ache would lead to the discovery of a 10 cm tumor growing inside her abdomen. Fighting Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma did not stop her from exploring San Diego and celebrating the end of treatment!
"While attending the University of Arizona, I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 19. Over the past 2 and a half years, I have had 100 rounds of chemo, spent over 100 nights in the hospital, and had over 20 visits to the emergency room. Fighting cancer during a pandemic made my cancer journey even more isolating. I have never been to San Diego and thanks to the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation, my dreams became a reality. My trip was everything I was hoping for and more. Nik's Wish provided me the opportunity to spend 5 days exploring San Diego with my family. We went kayaking, skydiving, and adventures around the zoo. It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of my chemo treatments and being cancer free. My family and I are so appreciative for this experience and everything the foundation does to support young adults fighting cancer .We had the most amazing trip!!! Thank you so so much for everything!!!!"

Christian from AK fighting Osteosarcoma

Christian began having knee pain during Taekwondo class that just did not get better. His wish is to travel from Alaska to meet with his gaming friends in Marquette, Michigan!

Emily from VA fighting Osteosarcoma

Katelyn from MD fighting Nodular Lymphocyte Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Hawaii

Katelyn was just starting her job as a nurse and in the prime of her life. She got a chest xray to find an 18 cm mass in her chest and a blood clot and was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Her Nik's Wish is to find JOY in Hawaii!
"I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in October 2019 and found out that I would be granted a wish from Nik’s Wish right at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. I was granted my wish to go to Disney’s Aulani resort in Hawaii!
I finally got to go on my trip to Hawaii in May 2021 with my mom who is also a recent cancer survivor. We stayed at Aulani and got to swim with dolphins during our stay. It was truly the trip of a lifetime and was such a blessing. This trip really gave us the chance to unwind and just focus on having fun instead of thinking about cancer or COVID.
I cannot thank Nik’s Wish enough for this experience. What this charity does for young cancer patients is beyond wonderful. A wish like this is so magical and brings some joy to the lives of young people that have gone through so much. I know that I will treasure those special Hawaii memories forever. Thank you to the Kelli, Kathy, Veronica, and all the other wonderful people at Nik’s Wish for all that you do to brighten our lives!"

PlayStation Game System

My life before I got diagnosed was very simple and it was easier living then. After I got diagnosed my life changed in an unexpected way but I'm getting through it day by day. It's hard now because I can't really do any of the things I use too. I can't come and go on my own and my friends and family don't really come around. life really hit me hard when I got diagnosed and it's been a struggle ever since.

What Nik's wish are you thinking about and why?
The Nik's wish I'm thinking about is a PlayStation game system because it'll keep my mind off of everything I'm going through.

"Thank you guys for making my wish come true!"

I just want to thank The Nik Foundation again for all that you've done. This has been a scary journey that we've had to face. Times have been very difficult for us financially and this was going to be the first Christmas that I wasn't able to buy my kids anything so this trip really means the world to us. Thanks so much and God bless each and every one attached to making a dream come true.

Meet Michael Tait

Cancer has changed the dynamic of our lives right now, but has showed us the importance of family.
My mother has been amazing during all of this. She is a single mom with five kids at home and works so hard for all of us. If I could have any wish come true I would want to use it for her to see a dream of hers come true... I would love for my family to be able to meet Michael Tait (the lead singer for Newsboys). She works so hard to take care of me, I would love to see one of her dreams come true.

Beach Vacation

Video: Click Here for Video

I was so happy when my mom first told me I was getting a wish. I spent hours looking up cool places to visit in the United States and my first option was California because I had never been there but then Covid happened. During Covid, it was very hard to keep a positive outlook on life but then we got the green light to pick a new spot to visit. Right then I knew my family and I needed to relax on the beach. The trip was everything I dreamed of and more!! I got to experience new things that my family wouldn't normally pay for, for example, jet skiing, parasailing, and doing a dolphin cruise out in the ocean. I wanted to personally thank you for granting me a wish. I really appreciated getting this opportunity. You and the Nik's foundation have been so cooperative and open to my family. This trip was just what my family and I needed in this stressful, chaotic time. Thank you again! This foundation truly made an impact on my life!!!

Karlee from IL fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Cruise

I was going to college for about 3 weeks before I was diagnosed. I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the age of 18. Since I was 18, I didn't qualify for "Make A Wish" because I was to old. I lived at OSF children's hospital for 8 straight months, and it changed my whole life. I couldn't be a "normal" 18 year old and go do fun things with my friends. I missed out on a lot that I can never get back. I spent every holiday plus my birthday in the hospital, and it was hard because everything was different now.

The cruise was AMAZING! Best 21st birthday ever !! Thank you so so much for this amazing trip!

Disney

I was a sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University who has just signed up for her fall semester classes. Life was going great. I had just declared my second major and signed a lease for a new apartment. However, I noticed something off about my leg. I researched and one of the possible things was cancer. I thought theres no way this could happen to me. Flash forward to 2 weeks later and I'm starting my first chemotherapy treatment, had to sublease my apartment, moved back home, and removed from school. Thank you for an amazing Disney Wish!

Nicholas from CT fighting Philadelphia Positive B Cell Acute Lymphoblasitc Leukemia

Build my own gaming desktop computer

My name is Nicholas and I was diagnosed at the age of 22 with Philadelphia Chromosome Positive, B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I gave up my apartment, moved back home, and left my full time job as a fork lift operator. I needed to be at Yale New Haven Hospital for special treatment. I was told the type of cancer that I had would probably return if I only chose chemo. So I had chemo, radiation and a stem transplant donated by my brother who was a 1/2 match. As of now my cancer is in remission and I am doing well. I just got my first set of immunizations. I have always loved gaming, so my Wish was to build my own gaming desktop computer. Component by component, they were delivered to the house and I assembled my Wish! I am very grateful to the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation for granting my Wish! Thank you to everyone involved in spreading joy with Wishes to young adults with cancer. Merry Christmas to All.

I am Jimmy's hospital/oncology Social Worker. He has Down Syndrome, and was 21 when he was diagnosed with ALL. He and his family would be very appreciative of a wish trip; his brother was killed in a car accident earlier this year, and it has been a very difficult time for Jimmy and the rest of his family. Jimmy lives with his mother and his stepfather, Cassandra and Brian Foster. He is a big Alabama football fan, and always has a smile on his face. We would love to see him get to go somewhere fun!

Emma from IL, fighting B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

A Wedding Venue

I was enrolled in my first year of college in California for Business Accounting for my major. I was interested in getting my degree there and come back to Rockford, IL to work and live. While in CA, my sister and I got to be involved in our school athletics during the week and going to the beach with friends on the weekend. I love to go to new places and discover cool spots in Los Angeles or small beaches. My sister and I would spend our time watching movies with friends and getting coffee at new places and cities. I would often call home and get excited to come home on breaks. I was involved in serving at my church there and met weekly at my small groups leader's house for a bible study and fellowship. My time was mostly spent working at Starbucks and studying/ doing school work. If I had spare time, I loved to read books and water color paint in coffee shops in between studying.
My life after being diagnosed has been a lot of the at the hospital, which brings hard memories as many of my trips were challenging physically and emotionally. I have the most amazing support system in my family and my church. God has provided over and beyond what we needed in support from our church. Many families have sent meals and gifts cards fo gas, as I go to Madison for treatments. I live at home right now and am enrolled at the local community college to keep busy and slowly work towards getting my degree. During my third month of treatment, I got to travel to Washington to visit family on our vacation and see my sister get married out west. I have been serving in my church as a Junior High 8th grade girl leader, where I lead a small group when my health allows. My life is very busy and yet not, with treatment continuing and almost done, I am ready to take on more capacity at my church, work and school. God provided me with a very flexible accounting internship for me to work and make money while I am in treatment. I am undecided still about where, but I want to go on a trip with my family to Europe.

I could not have survived treatment without the support of my boyfriend and my family so I would love to experience something great with them and we all love to hike mountain trails and travel to new places.

Carly from NJ, fighting ATRT Atypical Rhabdoid Tumor - Kidney and Brain

Ocean City Vacation

Carly had a bump on her head and a CT scan and MRI were performed, and the original large tumor (atypical meningioma)had been growing rapidly. It was brought before us to just give Carly Quality of Life and make her comfortable. She is doing well, stable, monitored by neuro oncology, and I am now at home with her monitoring her every day. We have also just started fostering kittens. I'm thankful for the time we have together-it's something I've always wished for! I pray everyday that this just stops growing and we can return to another new normal. Our requested need would be a family vacation some place VERY warm. Carly LOVES to swim, and thankfully is still able to do so! She loves cats, social media, movies, eating breakfast out, coffee, and summer. Carly is 22.

A Puppy

Miguel's Oncology Social worker shared with us... Miguel has had a long course of treatment with multiple reoccurrences, and progressive disease. Miguel is a joy to work with and has been a light to our team. We hope Nik's wish can help make his wish come true.

Miguel and Rocco (the puppy) are doing so great! There have been the normal puppy hurdles, but Rocco has brought SO MUCH JOY to Miguel's life. Honestly, I think Rocco has prolonged his life. Rocco is also bringing a great deal of joy to Miguel's family.

We just appreciate you so much. You made magic happen, and I am forever grateful.

Andrew from IN, fighting Ewing Sarcoma

The power of LOVE!

Today's wish story is one that reminds us of how LOVE can work miracles. Earlier this year, Nik's Wish was contacted by Riley's Children's Hospital to help Andrew fighting Ewing Sarcoma with a wish.
Andrew wrote us;
I was a collegiate soccer player for Taylor University. During my senior year, I was experiencing knee pain. After scans, tests, and biopsies it was confirmed to be cancer. I started treatment immediately. I had gotten married, and started a life with my wife and two dogs in Indianapolis. My wife and I just came out of a super stressful holiday season spent in the hospital, and we would love some time to relax together before we jump into a new treatment. We arranged a Key West vacation, but then COVID hit.

The trip was cancelled, but CANCER CONTINUED. I reached out to him to see if maybe there would be a non travel wish that we could do for him to keep him smiling. He requested a deck be put in so that he could sit outside and feel the sun. Building projects are not typical for us, but neither is a global pandemic. The Nik's Wish board approved the wish request.

Home Depot graciously discounted the materials and we paid a contractor $1000 to start work. The job was to be finished in a week. We were off to a great start!

Then things took a turn. After delivering the materials the contractor made no progress and abandoned the job. I received a call from Andrew's wife and was expecting to get an update on the deck, instead with tears in her voice, she explained that she would not be able to take a wish picture wearing wish shirts as Andrew passed away. My heart sank. Andrew's grieving widow with a bunch of materials in her yard, no wish, no Andrew and just broken. I wanted to get this completed, but how? The previous contractor did not return the money. Would I try with someone else to be taken again? Who could I trust to help this family in need?

There is a network of Nik's Wish families... families that know all to well about this terrible disease.. that continue to support other Nik's Wish families in so many ways. Today I would ask for the help from Presley's mom who lives in Indy. We were able to arrange a virtual wish for Presley to face time with her favorite star, Taylor Kinney, from Chicago Fire before cancer took her life. Ashley jumped in immediately to help.

Ashley connected me with Bob. Bob had met Ashley when he was working on a project next door to them. Bob had a day when 70 things went wrong all at once. Ashley started talking to him and shared Presley's story. Bob returned to his truck and hung his head and asked for God's forgiveness -- his problems were nothing compared to what Ashley's family was going through.
Ashley reached out to Bob to ask if he could help us complete the deck (actually start the deck). Bob did not hesitate... he was there the next day to assess the situation. He worked into the night, during the rain and he refused to take 1 dime for the work. Thank you, Bob, from Hoel Roofing & Remodeling and Ashley for helping us deliver this very special wish.

Andrew's wife shared with us: Andrew had wanted this for a while, so even if he did not get to see it completed, it will be a great place to continue to honor him and celebrate his life for years to come. Thank you so much.

COVID-19 Virtual wish to meet Omarion

What we thought was a toothache turned out to be a tumor in my left jaw. After staying in and out of the hospital for a little over a year, 14 rounds of chemo and two surgeries, I was pronounced cancer-free. I was rediagnosed with a tumor in the middle of my spine and left arm. I am now undergoing 25 rounds of radiation in my arm and 25 rounds in my spine. Once my radiation is completed, I will be starting chemo once again to assist the radiation to kill the cancer. My mom is my caregiver and she's always making sure I'm being taken care of. I would love to do something for her and my sister as well as myself so we can have live one day without the worries of my cancer returning.

Gaming Computer

I just graduated high school and was about to start college. I found a lump on my ankle that kept growing. I have to have inpatient chemo every two weeks for 9 months and have to have an amputation. I would like a gaming computer to provide a distraction from chemo/cancer and my worries.

I'm so grateful for you guys. Like seriously thank you this means the world to me!

Diana’s thank you video:
https://youtu.be/WjHRv6GXdyc

I was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL). My family, fiancé, my two and half-year-old son at the time and I were absolutely shocked and devastated. My son is now turning four years old which means for almost 2 years of his young life I have not been fully capable of enjoying events and activities a healthy mother does with her son. As a mother, not being able to take my son to public areas such as the aquarium, zoo, sporting events or even the mall is a terrible feeling. Cancer has taken time and memories away from family and loved ones that I will never get back. After all my family has been through, I believe a respite will give my fiancé, son and myself a sense of joy and a feeling that for once in two years, we are a happy normal family. Cancer has not only affected me, but it has affected my fiancé and son as well. Seeing them happy is all I could ask for and I hope this short story will get us a well-earned wish that I've been dreaming about. Thank you

Izaac from MI, Fighting Germ Cell Tumor, Brain Cancer

Hawaii

Before my tumor, I seemed to be a fairly typical kid of my age. I played all kinds of sports, hung out with friends all the time, and just seemed normal. I had beat the germ cell tumor but by early the next year we found out it had come back. I was so lucky to have 5 years without treatment but then on my 5 year scan, the tumor was back. This time treatment was really hard and was not very smooth. We attempted the tandem stem cell recovery again but the second one I was catching a virus and my body rejected my own cells and I went into a coma. It was so hard on my family because they did not know whether I would wake up but eventually I did. Now in January 2020, my tumor is back again. It has been very hard to always hear that it is back and that this time there is no conventional treatment, but we still have hope. Mostly I want to spend time with my family, they are my best friends enjoy the beach and soak up the sun.

Sabrina from AZ, Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Disney

I was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma the day after my 19th birthday. Not having much relationship with my family I felt alone and scared. In the process of treatment I was brought to God. I had support from a wonderful family, the Groenwald's, whom offered me a home when I can no longer afford to live on my own. It was rough but they stuck through me. I was having a recurrence of my Lymphoma requiring the most intense treatment of this journey. The Groenwald's stuck with me through my bi-weekly hospital admissions. This trip has allowed us to have a break from cancer. I've never been on a plane or vacation in my life and it was unlike anything I've ever experienced. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to get away and spend a week with the people I love most. In two weeks I'll be starting the process of receiving a bone marrow transplant. I've been scared and stressed about this process but after having this trip, I'm ready. Thank you to everyone who made it possible for my family and I to have this enlightening experience!--

Darbi from IA, Large B-Cell Lymphoma

S. Carolina Adventure

I tested positive for the Epstein Barr virus, which turns into lymphoma because my immunosuppressants made it impossible to fight this virus. This PTLD happens in 1 % of renal transplants. My treatment consists of R-CHOP for 6 treatments. My dad is a farmer and my mom works with intellectually disabled adults. They do not make a lot of money, but do have insurance
We were able to take a trip to Hilton Head South Carolina for a few days. It was so good to get away and take a break from all that was happening at home. I didn't have to think about anything that happened in the last year. We did something everyday that was so fun and enjoyable. This gave us the opportunity to explore Hilton Head and South Carolina. I have never been on the east coast before so getting to experience that with my family was the best. I loved the weather and all of the activities that we were able to do. I am so grateful for the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation and what they did for my family. They went above and beyond for us.--
